The Wellman Street House underwent a complete internal remodel wholly within it's existing footprint; breathing new life to the California bungalow. The project focused on both indoor and outdoor spaces, reimagining the home into a timeless modern retreat while paying homage to its rich heritage.
The redesign began with addressing the home’s layout challenges. The sunken kitchen that once disrupted the flow between living and dining was replaced with a seamless, open plan. The new kitchen now anchors the home—an expansive, light-filled space that connects effortlessly to adjoining rooms and extends outwards through floor-to-ceiling double-glazed sliding doors and a servery bench, blurring the boundary between indoors and outdoors.
Natural light and thoughtful details enrich every corner. A north-facing reading nook offers a sunny winter retreat, while multiple skylights brighten the entry hall, welcoming visitors with warmth and openness. The result is a home where heritage and modernity coexist—a sanctuary that balances form and function, with indoor living deeply connected to its surrounding landscape
